Chicago Greek Parade Organization Probed by State Attorneys

Angie Verros, current volunteer treasurer of the Federation of Hellenic American Organization of Illinois Enosis, approached the Attorney General’s Office after discovering that money was missing from some of the federation’s seven bank accounts.

The Federation is responsible for organizing the annual Greek Independence Day Parade on Halsted Street in Greektown, which is a decade long tradition for the city of Chicago.

Mrs. Verros claimed no one from the federation was willing to explain the financial mess to her and that is what led her to justice.

“The organization reportedly has $100,000 in its accounts, about half of which is not accounted for” said Mrs. Verros.

According to Chicago Business, the State’s Attorneys are also investigating an advertisement which appeared in local Greek newspapers that had the state’s attorney insignia and suggested the investigation was resolved.

Enosis President and Hellenic Voice newspaper publisher,Mr. Demetrios Georgakopoulos denied any financial disarray but declined to comment further on the case.
