Greek Child Predator Arrested in Denver Pleads Guilty

Greek Georgios Sgouros (42), who had flown from Athens to Denver in June 2010 after making an appointment of having sex with children, pleaded guilty on Thursday, December 1, 2011.

The man was arrested at the Denver International Airport, where he expected to meet a woman he had contacted through the Internet and who would allow Sgouros to molest her 5- and 7-year-old daughters.

However, the woman was an undercover officer of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Unit, working in a sting operation of tracking down pedophiles.

Sgouros pleaded guilty of travelling to the US with the intention of engaging in illicit sexual acts with minors.

Although the maximum sentence is 25 years in jail, prosecutors recommended a 10 years sentence. The final decision upon his sentence will be issued on March 14, 2012.

According to DenverPost.com, prosecutors have also agreed to recommend that Sgouros serve at least part of his sentence in Greece, where Sgouros said his wife and family could visit him.
