60th Annual Savannah Greek Festival is in Town!

From dancing to drinks and food, the Savannah Greek Festival in Savannah, Georgia has everything a person might need to express their inner-Greek. The 60th annual festival continues through Saturday.

Members of St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church have been hard at work preparing for the festival and making all the necessary arrangements to make sure it’s the best event yet, said Tommy Danos, a festival chairman.

The festival has live entertainment, an “Agora” marketplace, tours of the church, a Greek grocery store, food, meals, and pastries.

Food is such a main part of Greek culture that it’s also very prominently displayed at the festival and greatly anticipated by the Savannah community.

“The festival is all about fellowship, and food is included in that. You can’t go to someone’s house in a Greek community without them opening up their home and breaking bread with you. Celebrating with food is a Greek tradition,” said Kelli Holevas, chairman of food production.

Moreover, at the festival will be Greek music by “A Night in Athens” featuring George Anonopoulos, Nick Trivelas and Joanna, with dancing performances by Zoe. Dance troupes GOYA and Ta Pethia will perform, as well.

Along with the festivities, St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church will also hold guided tours and lectures on site, which will provide some history of the church.

Funds collected from the donations and purchases made at the festival go to the church and its programs, which in turn support the community.
