Hillary Clinton Congratulates Republic of Cyprus

US Secretary of State, Foreign Minister, Hillary Clinton in her statement on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus repeated her country’s support to the ongoing Cyprus negotiations aiming at reunifying the island on the basis of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.

“The United States value the long-standing friendship between our countries.Throughout 50 years of bilateral relations, we have built a strong partnership, and we look forward to working together to expand our relationship in the future”, Clinton stressed adding that “we recognize not just this history, but also the hopes for future security and prosperity”.

Clinton also called upon all sides to work together in order to achieve a comprehensive Cyprus settlement while she thanked Cyprus for aiding and hosting American citizens in need of shelter after tension broke out in the Middle East in the recent past.

Concluding, she wished “all the people of the Republic of Cyprus a safe and happy celebration as you mark this historic Independence Day”.
