Yale’s Digital Culture Revolution

Scholars, artists and other individuals from all over the world can enjoy free access to online images of millions of objects housed in Yale University’ s archives and libraries, thanks to the university’s new “Open Access” policy which allows free access to Yale’s Digital Cultural Collection.

More than 250,000 images are available through a newly developed collective catalogue, which highlights many Greek cultural items, including a model of the Greek temple at Paestum (from the Yale University Art Gallery). Paestum or Poseidonia, as it was originally known, is an ancient Greco-Roman city in the Campania region of southern Italy. It was founded by Greeks from Sybaris in the 6th century BC. The Greeks built three Doric temples – the first dedicated to Hera and two more of uncertain dedications.
