Pancretan Association of America Issues Proclamation on the Debt Crisis in Greece

On the occasion of the 2011 National Convention of the Pancretan Association of America, the organization issued the following proclamation regarding the sovereign debt crisis in Greece.

Whereas the public debt of Greece is the harbinger of financial problems for many countries, including our own, the United States, and

Whereas frequent talk in the mass media for Greece to sell off islands to pay the debt will set back mankind history to centuries past when slavery was a common practice for the repayment of debt and

Whereas similar demands on territories of the U.S. like the sale of Alaska and/or Hawaii to repay our public debt will undoubtedly set off the Third World War.

Therefore, we, the 42nd Convention of the Pancretan Association of America call on our fellow Americans to stand by the declared principles of our founding fathers on human rights and oppose the compromise of sovereign territories and exploitation of the native population for the repayment of public debt.

Dismissing the irresponsible statement that Greece should compromise her sovereignty does not imply that Greece should not come up with a realistic solution for fair repayment of accumulated debts. The Greek people, throughout their 3000 years of recorded history, have faced and overcome greater challenges including conquests from Persians, Romans, Arabs, Venetians, Turks, and Germans who massacred masses of civilians, destroyed villages, pillaged cities and stole the public gold. Greece’s current financial crisis is only a bump in the road of its history, which will be overcome by its people.

We call on the American people and policymakers to stand by our longstanding reliable ally Greece and set a fair standard for the resolution of international public debts without resorting to force or sacrificing our principles on human rights.

Signed on June 30, 2011
