Hellenic Imperial Airways Conducts First Athens-NY Flight

The first flight from Athens to New York was carried out by Hellenic Imperial Airways on Friday.

The last time that the Greek flag fluttered in the sky was two years ago. Since yesterday, the Greek flag made its appearance at the International J.F. Kennedy airport. The General Director, Costas Mavrikis, ( General Director of Olympic Airlines in NY before it became private) stated, “there are four flights per week and considering the demand we aspire to schedule daily flights from Athens to NY, and vice versa”.

Mavrikis, hoped that this flight would support the touristic movement from the USA to Athens and stressed that the Greek community had immediately responded and had shown its interest and support for the Hellenic Imperial Airways.

The General Director of Hellenic Imperial Airways, mentioned that every passenger has as first priority his safety, so they employed experienced pilots, technical workers and aircrew. According to his point of view, their tickets are cheaper and reminds everyone that the last two years the prices have been extremely high due to lack of competition.

According to him, many changes have been made considering the convenience of the passengers. Now, 217 seats are placed instead of 267 seats as it used to be. There are eight seats for first class ticket holders and another 24 seats for business class passengers.

Four flights per week are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The departure time is 5:30 pm and the arrival time is 9:30 pm (local time). The departure time from NY is at 11:30 pm (local time) and the flight arrives at El. Venizelos at 5:00 pm.
