A draft resolution was presented a few days ago in the U.S. House, calling on Turkey to ensure the Christian heritage (including Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Pontic Greeksand Syrians) and return the confiscated church property to the recipients.
In a related statement by the American Hellenic Institute (AHI), the tabling of the resolution, initiated by two members of the Foreign Affairs Committee Democratic Howard Berman and Republican Ed Royce, was welcomed.
The president of AHI, Nick Larigakis, said that the resolution calls Turkey to proceed with immediate compliance with its obligations according to international treaties and human rights, respecting the religious freedom and the unalienable rights of all people for freedom of faith.
Thirty-two House Members from both parties are in favour of the draft resolution.
