Greek National Football Team Plays Against Ecuador, New York

The Greeks of America welcomed the National Football Team of Greece, which will play a friendly match with Ecuador, at Citi Field stadium in Flushing, Queens on Tuesday, June 7th.

The stadium was recently inaugurated and has a 45,000 people capacity. The Greece-Ecuador match will be the first match to take place in the stadium. Homogeneous bodies, athletic associations, Greek-American schools and student associations have been notified of the event, hoping that they will fill the stands and give their wholehearted support to both teams.

Greek-american New York’s Senator Michalis Giannaris, elected in Astoria along with State Deputy Member Francisco Moya, from Ecuador gave a press conference regarding Tuesday’s match in the stadium’s installations. Giannaris stressed that the National Football Team of Greece will make all homogeneous Greeks proud of their country of origin, emphasizing the fact that in 2004, Greece was the European football champions. The streets and squares in Astoria were packed with people, celebrating  the Greek team’s triumph!

Francisco Moya referred to the passion of his co-patriots for football, expressing the hope that we will all enjoy an ”impressive game”. Representative of the match’s organisers stated that the stadium will be packed with supporters, in particular Greeks and Hispanics.
