Greek-American Restaurateur Gets Street Named After Him

Petros Mastoris, also known as Peter Masters, was honored recently by former Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City Council of Chicago, when a section of Historic South Cicero Avenue was renamed as HONORARY PETER MASTERS BLVD. The award was bestowed on the 30th anniversary of his Peter Masters Restaurant in Chicago.

 

Peter is a restaurateur, poet, author and lyricist, as well as a member and past supreme governorof AHEPA. He is a member of the International Poets Association as well one of the association’s past winners. Peter was awarded honors for winning at the 2007 International Poet Society’s in Beijing, China and honored guest and reader in Dublin, Ireland in 2009. Peter is the founder of the United Business Association of Midway (UBAM) and is very active within the business community and in philanthropic matters. In 1985, Peter was honored by the late Mayor Harold J. Washington by being recognized as the Chairman of the Neighborhood Forum and then again by Daley in 2009 for his dedication and contributions to Midway Airport Area community.

 

The street was renamed at a ceremony on May 18, and a proclamation from the city was read by Alderman Michael R. Zaiewski.
