U.S Postal Service Honors Greece with Stamp Collection

A stamps collection dedicated to the American Philhellenes was released on Tuesday, April 19th by the U.S. postal service, to honor the Americans who fought and were sacrificed for the freedom of Greece.

The collection of stamps, titled “The American Association of Philhellenes 1810-1840”, was released on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity and Philhellenism.  The collection presents the grave of Philhellene George Jarvis, the portrait of Professor Samuel Gkrintly Chaos and the emblem of the Association of American Philhellenes.

In Greece, April 19th is set, under presidential decree, as the International Day of Solidarity and Philhellenism. This particular day has been chosen because it is the anniversary of the death of the great Lord Byron.

Every year on this day honoring events are organized for the movement of Philhellenes in all cities, with tributes to the Philhellenes of the last century and those who are still alive
