Chris Alahouzos is 1st Greek to Serve as Vice Mayor, Tarpon Springs, FL.

Chris Alahouzos left his homeland, Kalymnos, at the age of 14 to visit America with his father, who was a sponge diver. They settled in Tarpon Springs, Florida, where he has lived for 43 years. The Vice Mayor of Tarpon Springs is the first Greek, born in Greece, to serve as Vice Mayor to the “Greek Village” or the “Epiphany City”, as Tarpon Springs is known.
The swearing-in ceremony of the Vice Mayor, who was appointed to serve as the town’s commissioner since 2006, was held a few days ago in Tarpon Springs City Hall.  It was held in the presence of Tarpon Springs Mayor, David O. Archie, a number of local officials and citizens.
“I would like to assure everyone that I will continue to offer my services to the residents of Tarpon Springs”, stated Mr. Alahouzos to the National Herald, adding that “I would like to convey to the Greek community that I am very proud to have the opportunity to continue to serve them for two more years”.
Mr. Alahouzos is an executive member of Verizon and a Marine Corps reserves veteran, as well as an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and a past youth soccer coach.
He is also the Chairman of the Municipal Committee for the town-twinning activities of Tarpon Springs.
There are approximately 5.000 residents of Greek origin in Tarpon Springs, out of which 3.500 originate from Kalymnos.
