"The Economist" Profiles Greece’s Economic Downfall

The Economist’s latest issue makes a large reference on the huge economic problems of Greece, on the attempts of frugality and on the international plan for the country which has unfortunately started to paralyze the nation.  Its article underlines once more, the difficult situation of the country.

When the ancient Greeks invented the word “crisis”, they had in mind a temporary time period, a sharp stress. The modern Greeks face the crisis every day without seeing where it will stop. The climate in Greece is very pessimistic. In Syntagma, taxi drivers contest that their income has decreased up to 40% or more. Bar and restaurant owners try in vain to attract tourists to sit down to their almost empty restaurants. In Kolonaki, the stores are about to shut down. Tourists keep coming to visit the Parthenon at the Acropolis, but the centre of the city is nearly empty. Nine hotels have closed in the centre of Athens in the the last few months.
