Greek Exhibition Concerning Auschwitz, NYC

Fotini Tomai, head of the Diplomatic and Historical Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented pictures and memories which are part of the Permanent Greek Exhibition at the Auschwitz Monument. The event was held at the Press and Communication Office of Greece in New York and was co-organized with the “American Friends of the Jewish Museum of Greece”. Mrs. Tomai referred to names, testimonies and information included in the permanent exhibition, also presenting visual material of the exhibition.  She underlined the humanist, historical and political actions of Greece, while finally mentioning the victims of the Holocaust, among which were a lot of Greeks. Particularly moving were the words of people who survived from the camps and the chase of German troops against the Greeks and Jews and who noted that they owe their lives to their brave compatriots that saved them. Mrs. Tomai was presented by Consulate General of Greece in New York, Agi Mpalta, who talked about Mrs. Tomai’s “persistent work” on searching the historical truth. The event was also attended by Evangelos Kyriakopoulos and Consulate General of Cyprus Koula Sophianou.
