Cultural Event Dedicated to Greek Cypriot War Held in NYC

The cultural organization AKTINA Productions Inc. and its President, Mrs. Elena Marouletti presented a cultural event in Astoria dedicated to the Greek Cypriot War against Britain of April 1st, 1995. Documentary films about Cypriots heroes of 1955-1959, Grigoris Afxentiou and Kyriakos Matsis, were showed.  Poems and letters of heroes were read by Mrs. Marouletti and poet Polis Kyriakou, as well as songs inspired by the Cypriots’ strengths were performed by the Archdiocesan Metropolitan Youth Choir of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, under the direction of Mrs. Maria Koleva.

In his proclamation, Minister for Health of Cyprus pointed out that, “freedom cannot be bought, but can be won with war and sacrifices. Those heroes must be the voice of our consciousness in our efforts of Cyprus issue resolution”.

A large crowd comprised by Greek-Cypriot Americans, Greek-Americans and members of the general audience, including several dignitaries, officials and leaders of the Greek and Cypriot American community, attended the event.
