Silicon Valley’s Greek "Magician" Sells Company for $263 Million Dollars

An extremely huge agreement for the purchase of his company succeeded the Greek “magician” of Silicon Valley Tasos Arguros (photo). The big company of informative systems Teradata, officially announced that it will pay 263 million dollars to obtain the total amount of the Aster Data Systems shares, the pioneer company that was founded five years ago by Tasos Argyros and two of his colleagues at Stanford University. The Aster Data Systems is an exceptional case of a dynamic company, which was based on a pioneer idea of its founders: using many cheap computers for the creation of a powerful computer system, able of analyzing huge amounts of data on a very low cost. This kind of technology seems to have seduced the number 1 company of data analyzing in the world, Terradata, which decided to make a very alluring proposal to conquer Aster Data Systems. The agreement was announced on Thursday, the 3rd of March, and will be completed in the second trimester of 2011 with the merging of the two companies and the absorption of the Aster Data Systems’ employees by its company buyer. For the purchase Terradata will pay sharers 263 million dollars, acquiring 89% of the company’s shares. The other 11% left has already been purchased by Terradata on September 2010, as they have foreseen that the miracle-company of the young Greek would have a great future. After all this, Tasos Argyros states that five years ago he wouldn’t even imagine what is happening today even though he was dreaming of it. All this has been an elusive dream for him. Finally, the dream came true with hard work.
