University of Nebraska’s Nick Stergiou Excels in Biomechanics & Kinesiology

Greek doctor Nicholas Stergiou is an eminent professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, famous for his work in the fields of biomechanics and robotics . His lab on the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s campus is an ocean away from Thessaloniki, Greece, where he first unearthed his love for math and physics.

Our laboratory was established for the purpose of developing a new understanding of the dynamical aspects of human movement. The laboratory is a flourishing enterprise where engineers, scientists and clinicians get together to gain additional insights on healthy and abnormal gait. The laboratory uses techniques from biology, engineering and mathematics to understand the complexity of the neuromuscular system. Such techniques have revolutionized the way we perceive how the neuromuscular system controls human movement”, said the famous doctor.

Dr. Nick Stergiou and his research team try to find therapies for kinetic diseases, such as Parkinson, multiple sclerosis, and stroke rehabilitation. The most impressive sample of his work is baby therapy for those with cerebral paralysis, which was published in the “Journal of Physical Therapy” magazine.
