Greek Flavor at the New York Comic Con 2010

Terry Dougas & Stan Lee

New York Comic Con is always one of the most fun events for Comic lovers.  Lots of guest dressed up in the most imaginary costumes, from common superman to X-men to other animation characters. Many costumes were self-made and very impressive. This year the conference had a Greek flavor. Greek entrepreneurs Paris Kasidokostas Latsis and Terry Dougas have partnered to kick-start a new comic book and graphic novel company 1821 Comics.

We met with Terry Dougas at booth #2125 and he gave us some insights.

“We are honored and delighted to launch 1821 Comics today at New York Comic Con with a three book agreement with the iconic storyteller Stan Lee a comic legend and Lee’s POW! Entertainment,” said Terry Dougas, Co-Owner and Co-Publisher of 1821 Comics. “We look forward to embarking on this journey with Stan to produce and release these three new books. It’s been an amazing experience working with Stan and judging from the fan reactions today to ROMEO AND JULIET: THE WAR, we are hoping that this will be a highly sought-after book and that we do justice to the original masterpiece play.”

During the event 1821 Comics and POW! Entertainment unveiled exclusive artwork, images and the official cover of ROMEO AND JULIET: THE WAR. ROMEO AND JULIET: THE WAR will be printed in a stylistic manner with breathtaking imagery. The book will be available in spring 2011.

“I am delighted to be working with Terry, Paris and 1821 to bring audiences and fans around the world a retelling of such a classic tale with ROMEO AND JULIET: THE WAR,” said Stan Lee, Founder, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer (CCO) of POW! Entertainment. “Terry and I have been working on the story and images for over a year and we have kept it secret until today’s unveiling with the fans, we are all really excited to bring this project to life!”

Skan Srisuwan is creating the artwork and Max Work is writing for ROMEO AND JULIET: THE WAR. The book tells the story of two groups of superhuman soldiers who turn the Empire of Verona into the most powerful territory on earth. The Montagues, powerful cyborgs made of artificial DNA, and the Capulets, genetically enhanced humans known for their speed and agility, who work in tandem to destroy all threats to Verona. With no one left to fight, they have a new enemy, each other.

“Terry and I are thrilled to launch 1821 Comics this week and couldn’t ask for a better business partner than Stan Lee,” said Paris Kasidokostas Latsis, Co-Owner and Co-Publisher of 1821 Comics. “At 1821 Comics we want to make comics with great stories and amazing artwork that appeal to all genres and genders alike including Sci Fi, action, horror, children’s books and much more.”

1821 Comics is in active production on 10 graphic novels which will all be released by the end of 2011. 1821 Comics will develop and release graphic novels with a wide variety of genres for both men and women spawning all age groups from terrifying stories, to Sci Fi tales and children’s projects.

The second comic book by 1821 Comics that drew our attention was “Hercules: The Uprising” a story by Terry Dougas himself about Hercules coming back to save humanity from an alien attack only this time his is half human half machine.

The second day of the festival had double the number of guests with many presentations of new and old artists, contests , new movie presentations and required an entire day to follow everything.

New York Comic Con is definitely a great experience and we are already looking forward for the 2011 one.
