Obama’s Speech Concerning 50th Year Anniversary of Cyprus’ Independance

The support for the reunification of Cyprus in the form of a bi-zonal, bi-communal union, was stated by U.S. President Barack Obama in his speech at the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Cyprus Republic. President Obama said that the U.S. and Cyprus are linked by a long history of friendship, common ideals, and the great contribution of Americans of Cypriot descent on the progress of the U.S.  He continued to say that this year also completed 50 years of diplomatic relations between America and Cyprus.  Obama noted that the U.S. looked forward to deepening and strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in many areas of common interest.   He hopes for future security and prosperity.  The President welcomes the determined efforts to achieve an ample settlement to the Cyprus problem and expressed the belief that it is a feasible solution that meets the expectations of the communities.
