Dr. Ntangas is the New Manager for Dept. of Modern Cardiac Surgery, Mount Sinai Hospital

Dr. George Ntangas is a scientist of Greek origin and with remarkable credentials.  He is now the Manager of the Department of Modern Cardiac Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in Astoria, New York and Professor of Cardiology at the School of Medicine.  Mount Sinai Hospital, which also has a hospital in Manhattan, NY, is one of the largest hospitals in America states the “National Herald”.  The department taken over by Dr. Ntangas is responsible for all non-invasive surgical operations which treat many cardiovascular diseases.

“This is a new concept of administration for the Medical Center, which embraces Manhattan and Queens, to develop a single cardiovascular medical unit, which will cover both hospitals,” said Ntangas.  The department headed by Dr. Ntangas employs many doctors of various specialties who have practiced techniques directly related to the rapid development of technology.  “As ideas, these techniques existed for some time but now, they are actually being used, since the technology allows it and has made a reality.  These delicate techniques allow doctors to close holes in the heart without surgery, “says Dr. Ntangas.  He works with two other Greek doctors at Mount Sinai; Nicholas Skipitari, the Director of the Department of Electrophysiological Interventions, and Angela Vougiouka, a Vascular Surgeon.

“We aspire to further develop relations with more Greek doctors abroad and medical postgraduate scholarships from Greece to participate in our department, or with similar activities…Together with Mr. Skipitari, we have particular interest in the development of our medical expertise in the area of Astoria, which will be announced soon, and our aim is to offer the level of cardiovascular care are comparable to those offered to Manhattan.”

Most recently Dr. Ntangas was Deputy Professor of Cardiology at the School of Medicine at Columbia University in New York City and director of the Interventional Cardiology Training Program. He was also the director of the Cardiology Department at the Onassis Clinic in Athens and president of the Greek Medical Association of New York.  He is Chairman of the Board of the World Greek Biomedical Association which will hold their next meeting on October 9th in London.
