Gabby Awards 2011 Selects Ellis Island as its Location

Ellis Island of New York City is the symbol of the migrant movement in the USA.  The location will host the next fabulous ceremony of Gabby Awards for the prominent members of Greek American society. This ceremony honors the most important people in business, politics, arts, sports, charity and promotion of Hellenism. It highlights individuals who stand out and continue to have a relation with their cultural heritage.

Creator of the Gabby Awards is the “Greek America” magazine and its publisher Gregory Pappas. The Gabby Awards  take place every two years and have eight categories. The first time that the awards took place was in Chicago in 2009.

Hundreds of Greek Americans attended the first ceremony in Chicago and such a presence is expected in June 2011 at Ellis island.

The symbolism of the location is heavy as the parents and grandparents of the honored migrated to the USA through this port.  In the following months the academy for the awards will announce the names of the award winners.
