Vassilios Kostetsos’ Collection Featured During NYC Fashion Week

Greek designer Vassilios Kostetsos presented his spring/summer collection during NYC’s Fashion Week.  His show  occured on September 12th at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan.

Vassilios’ Spring/Summer 2011 collection is an inspiration from Greek antiquities and the Amazons, representations, shapes and elements that decorate the Greek pottery.  These images were imprinted on fine jersey, satin and shantung, material, scarves and accessories.  They were detailed with asymmetric drapes and pleats on dresses and microscopically geometric sleeves.

In a statement regarding his collection, Vassilios said: “The dynamic strength of the Amazons comes alive by today’s women, transforming them to the modern “AELLA”, as the first Amazon was called. Women and men like sculptures are dressed with amazing clothing from mousseline material and small pieces of leather like modern armor, which transform the 2011 woman and man, and are ready to tackle their daily routines full of dynamism and style.”

“Colors like terracotta, blue of the Aegean Sea, white and black, playing with gold and silver, monochrome but also on modern images that depict the God Hermes, the Satyrs and the Goddess Aphrodite, all help decorate my designs reminding us today the Greece of yesterday”.

Vassilios Kostetsos was born in Athens under the beautiful Greek blue
sky.  This has become a point of reference and an inspiration in his life as a designer.

His mother established a leading clothes importer business in Greece and was already recognized within the Greek fashion industry.  At the age of 9, Vassilios visited her studio in downtown Athens and got involved in the magical world of fashion and design.
By 1990 he had launched his own label name “VASSILIOS KOSTETSOS” and opened his first studio in the fashionable district of Kolonaki in Athens. In the same year he presented his first haute couture collection.
Vassilios quickly established his reputation and proved his excellence as one of the major fashion designers in Greece, at a very young age.
He organizes two big fashion shows each year with haute couture creations.  He has enjoyed working with some of the world’s major international super models such as Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbel , Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen, Carla Bruni, Tatiana Patitz, Nadjia Auermann, Michele Hicks , Marcus Schenkenberg, Eva Herzigova , Karen Mulder, Care Otis, Tasha de Vasconcelos , Ester Canadas , Eugenia Volodina,  and Carmen Kass.

Vassilios loves to stage fashion shows with a difference.  In 2000 and 2001 he surprised the Greek fashion world with two spectacular fashion shows.  The first was at and literally held in The Athens Central Train Station.  The second was held inside an airplane during a flight from Athens to Leros island. The last three seasons he has lived between Athens and New York, presenting his collections to the USA market which he adores.
