Chicago: Twenty-three teams Geared Up for Hellenic Tournament

While most eyes are on the Greek Super League this weekend, on this side of the Atlantic many are gearing up for next weekend’s Hellenic Tournament at Olympic Park in Schaumburg, Illinois. The fifth edition of the tournament takes place next Labour Day weekend with teams hailing from across the United States and neighbouring Canada.
The 2010 edition of the tournament features four divisions this time around, with a total twenty-three teams occupying those divisions. Action gets underway on Friday 3 September, with matches carrying on throughout the weekend until the annual award ceremony and trophy presentation on Sunday night.

The tournament’s goal is the same target Greeksoccer.com attempts to achieve through its news updates and popular forums: Uniting Greek Soccer Fans Around the Globe. The tournament’s motto is based on unity as Greek soccer fans look to gather just outside the Windy City for a chance to take part in a friendly, yet competitive, tournament with their peers.
The slogan, “One Passion, One Dream, One Tournament,” summarizes what Greeksoccer.com has become for thousands of Greek fans, with the online community growing everyday.
Sponsors of this summer’s tournament once again include Greek television station ANT1, as well as the World Council for Hellenes Abroad. Tournament programs along with standings and schedules can be found online through the Greeksoccer.com website.
