President Barack Obama greatly supported U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias on two fronts last Thursday. The President’s support raised much needed campaign funding and reassured voters that Giannoulias is a trusted ally who can help lead the nation in a postive direction.
The fundraising event generated almost $1 million dollars and took place at The Palmer House Hilton. The event was during President Obama’s trip back home to Chicago. During his trip the President toured a Southeast Side Ford plant and had a 49th birthday dinner part Wednesday night, along with friend Oprah Winfrey.
Obama and Giannoulias spoke to more than 400 donors last Thursday afternoon. They emphasized November’s midterm elections and stressed the difference between the economic policies of the previous Bush administration and efforts by the Democratic White House regarding the current financial crisis.
