Archbishop Proclaims May 16 as AHEPA Sunday

Encyclical is annual observance and recognition of AHEPA’s good work.
His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios has proclaimed May 16, 2010 as “AHEPA Sunday” in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
“On this day we as the Holy Archdiocese of America recognize the members and service of the American Hellenic Educational and Progressive Association. The AHEPA family has a long history of promoting Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility, family and individual excellence in a spirit of true diakonia and community,” wrote the archbishop in the Encyclical.
“We are very grateful and honored by the eloquent words His Eminence used to describe the hard work that our members carry-out on a daily basis,” said Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas. “The Order of AHEPA is proud of its 88-year history and standing with the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America; a relationship that has depicted the two entities as being ‘The Twin Pillars of Hellenism’ in America. This relationship has blossomed over the past ten-and-a-half years with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios.”
