Greek Culture in New York by the Greek Press Office

The Press and Communication Office in New York of the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations along with the Consulate General of Greece in New York hosted events that promote Greece showing up the country’s culture and heritage. These events were attended by correspondents of international media in the UN, Greek Americans who work in US media, museum representatives, and other prominent people of the culture and arts industry.

Nyfes (Brides), a 2004 Greek film directed by Pantelis Voulgaris, was one among the remarkable Greek films shown during the events.

A few days ago the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) hosted a forum on the “U.S. Policy toward Greece, Turkey and Cyprus: Developments and Prospects in the Obama Administration”. Ted Carpenter, the vice president for defense and foreign policy studies at the Cato Institute, Doug Bandow, a senior fellow at the same institute, and Dimitris Dimas, the Washington Editor of Eleftherotypia constituted the panel, whereas AHI Executive Director Nick Larigakis was the moderator of the discussion.

On Wednesday, Manhattan District Attorney and US Marine Colonel Matthew Bogdanos, who led the investigation into the looting of Iraq’s National Museum while on active duty in Marine Corps in 2003, will present his book “Thieves of Baghdad. Colonel Bogdanos will refer to his personal experiences describing the looting, and the ongoing investigation and will also speak about the eternal values of the Greek Civilization.
