A great program by the National Hellenic Society called the Heritage Greece Program is looking for applicants to send to Greece.
Heritage Greece is a generous grant from the National Hellenic Society (NHS) to selected student participants as part of its mission to celebrate and preserve Greek heritage in the United States through the support of programs that impact the next generation.
The joint DEREE – The American College of Greece (ACG) – National Hellenic Society (NHS) program spotlights the global appeal of humanism, reason, the pursuit of knowledge and the arts, and the importance of civic responsibility of engaging with modern Greece.
Eligibility for the Heritage Greece program is open to young Americans of Greek origin and exceptional academic standing, aged 18-26 who have never been to Greece before. The Heritage Greece participants will travel, study and interact with their peers–Greek students from ACG. Selected candidates will incur no cost for participation in the program other than transportation to and from New York.
Student participants will he hosted at ACG’s residences close to the College’s main campus in Aghia Paraskevi, a suburb of Athens, just 6 miles from the city center. The students will attend specially designed courses and receive three academic credits. The College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education. Student participants will visit important archaeological and religious sites, tour the countryside and visit traditional villages and the Greek islands. Students will also meet and engage with members of the Greek government, officials of the US Embassy in Greece, and business, media and various opinion leaders while in Greece.
The visiting Greek Americans will be paired with peer students of DEREE – The American College of Greece, throughout their stay to share their experiences together, intended to forge relationships and lasting bonds.
