Event in Washington marking values of Hellenism

The 2nd annual event titled “The Ecumenical Humanitarian and Diachronic values of Greek Culture and Education” held last Thursday at the hall of the US Congress was held with great success. The event was jointly organized by the Council for Hellenes Abroad (SAE) Education Committee and the Federation of Greek-American educators.
Attending the event were Greek-American politicians, John Sarbanes (D-MD), Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Rhode Island State Senator, Leonidas Raptakis, representatives of senators, John Kerry and Carolyn Maloney and high profile personalities of the Greek omogeneia.
Awarded at the event for his significant contribution and the multi-faceted work for the promotion of Greek culture and Education in the US was outgoing Greek Ambassador in Washington, Alexandros Mallias as well as Senator John Kerry, scientist-researcher, Marcus Templar and the Director of the Greek-America Day School in Jamaica, Dr. George Melikokis.
The event concluded with a recital by the choirs of the Hellenic School of Washington and the Odyssey Charter School of Delaware who performed Greek songs, while children of both schools also recited the poem by Seferis “Eleni.
