Michigan Greeks’ Invitation: "Be Greek For a Day"

The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Michigan is holding the annual festival “Assumption Greek Festival 2012” and invites friends of every origin to attend and “Be Greek for a day.”

From August 16th to 19th, over 10,000 people are expected to experience a taste of Greece at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Marter Road. According to excited organizers, the reason for the festival’s fame is “there is something for everyone” and promise this Festival will be one of the best summer events.

There is no real Greek festival without food, so there will be traditional Greek homemade food and pastries including dolmathes, saganaki, gyros sandwich and rice pudding, as well as live music and dancing for everyone. Festival-goers will have a chance to see traditional Greek costumes from many regions of Greece, as well.

Several other events will fascinate both adults and younger friends. There will be a ‘Youth Activities Tent’ housing games, magicians, balloons, cotton candy, tattoos, face painting and much more. Climbing walls and bungee jumps will provide hours of fun along with a petting zoo and pony rides.

Apart from the dancing and gastronomical events, grown-ups will have the opportunity to shop authentic Greek items in the market place, attend a cultural exhibit presenting Greek migration stories and also, an iconography tour under the supervision and contribution of renowned iconographer Vlasis Tsotsonis.
