Discover Your Greek Heritage through Unique Programs at National Hellenic Museum in July

When you are in Chicago be sure to stop by Greek Town and the National Hellenic Museum where in the entire month of July you can attend an array of cultural events.

This week kicks off with the return of the Classics Book Club which will be meeting on July 8. The program runs through August 12.

This summer the book club will focus on three major Greek tragedies and the role of tragedy in society both in ancient times and today.

Also kids will have the opportunity to participate in several programs, including Little Homer Story Hour. The program is on-going on Saturdays starting from June 9 through July 16 from 10:00am – 11:15am. Space is limited, so the museum does advise to pre-register.

While the little ones enjoy interactive storytelling and a create fun crafts at Little Homer Story Hour, you can relax and participate in Yoga on the Roof. This program is running from June 9 through August 25 on Saturdays from 10:00am – 11:15am. All you need is to show up and yoga mats and wipes will be provided.

The museum is also offering a Summer Camp program from July 13 to July 19 where children will be able to interactively explore ancient Greek history and discover what a week in the life of an archaeologist is like.

This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about the Greek culture and basic Greek phrases and greetings, as well as numbers. To finish the week of cultural experience off, children get to design their own piece of pottery to take home with them to remember their time at summer camp. The camp runs from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
