The First Gold Coin Ever Made Comes from Ancient Greece

Among the items at the $10 million exhibition in Long Beach called, The Tyrants of the Tigris & Euphrates, one small coin from Ancient Greece is stirring up a lot of attention.

Made circa 564-539 B.C. on behalf of King Kroisos of Lydia, the ancient Greek coin is the first gold coin ever to be made.

The collection will be showing from June 14-16, at the Long Beach Coin, Currency, Stamp & Sports Collectible Expo. For more information about the collection, check out: TheTyrantCollection.com.

The exhibit will display over 350 ancient, medieval and modern coins of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers valley.

The ancient treasures span some 2,600 years through history of their origin, the eastern Mediterranean Many of the coins on display are “the finest known of their kind”, thedailycoin.org says.
