Watch This Teen Win $40K by Spelling Greek Word (video)

A 14-year-old Texan student has scooped a national spelling prize with his perfect recital of the Greek word “koinonia”.

Karthik Nemmani of McKinney, Texas, won the 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee earlier this week, beating over 500 other contestants.

Scooping more than $40,000 cash at the Maryland event, Karthik also won trips to New York and Los Angeles for television appearances and a pizza party for his school.

The Greek word κοινωνία means “Christian fellowship or communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians”.
