My Life with the Wave – An Art Installation by Greek American artist Tina Psoinos

Not to be missed is the new exhibition by Greek American artist Tina Psoinos, opening tomorrow in New York City.

We caught up with Tina during the installation at the exhibition space. At a corner storefront in NY’s prime midtown location Tina Psoinos and Paris Kostopoulos of Paris K Design have transformed an old showroom into a pop up gallery.

The feel is industrial and looks very much like an outdoor art scene. According to the artist/ designer couple that was the intention, to transform the space into an urban street art scene.

Alongside the artwork, there is graffiti and partly installed tiles on the walls, while torn paper and sheetrock are placed on the floor. Tina tells us “that was the appeal for us taking such an interesting space and using it raw, creating a street art inspired theme.”

In our question regarding the title of the exhibition Tina answered:

“It is inspired by the short story of Octavio Paz by the same title.  The main series in this exhibit depicts the female entity through pop culture and timeless beauty icons exploring the complexity of female psyche, layer after layer, using traditional and unconventional art techniques with street art aesthetics while incorporating excerpts from the short story.”

And continues “The story is a love affair between a man and a wave where reality and fantasy are merged. I was intrigued by the description of the different phases of the relationship through the moods the wave and could see myself in her. I know most women can identify with the wave. ”

The exhibition is located at 1104 2nd Ave and the NE corner of 58 street. The opening reception is  Wednesday December 13, 6:00-8:00 pm. And the duration of the show has not been determined yet. After the opening night it can be viewed by appointment.
