Katie Holmes has once again taken on the role of Jackie Kennedy in the mini-series The Kennedys After Camelot, a follow-up to the last season of the Canadian-American mini-series, The Kennedys.
The follow-up mini-series, After Camelot details the romance between Jackie and the Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis and shows the complicated relationship between the young Jackie and her love interest who was 23 years her senior.
The Kennedys original series met great controversy when initially aired as it was seen as “historically inaccurate” by critics in the U.S. In fact in the U.S. on January 7, 2011, the cable channel History announced that it would not air The Kennedys in the country, saying that “this dramatic interpretation is not fit for the History brand.” There were rumors that the show met so many issues getting on air because of political ties to the Kennedy family blocking the show as it painted the former first family in an unfavorable light. Eventually Direct TV picked up the mini-series in the U.S.
Ironically it was shown in the UK on the History channel. Tom Davidson, managing director of AETN-UK stated on the History website: “Securing the UK premiere of The Kennedys is a major coup for the History channel.
