Greek-American singer Margarita Sings Ta Paidia Tou Peiraia from Never on Sunday (video)

margaritamercouriOver the years there have been many remakes and tributes to the Oscar-winning song “Ta Paidia Tou Peiraia”, originally sang by Melina Mercouri and composed by Manos Hadjidakis for the famous Greek film, Never on Sunday.

The film tells the story of a prostitute, played by the late Mercouri, who refuses to work on the holy day of Sunday.

The song has been remade by big names such as Bing Crosby, Lena Horne, Doris Day, Eartha Kitt and Petula Clark as well as in dozens of languages including German, Chinese, French, Polish and Serbian to name a few.

These days the song has made a comeback for a new generation to admire thanks to Greek-American singer, Margarita, who is best known for singing on Greek TV’s Fame Story, and has created a YouTube tribute to “Ta Paidia Tou Peiraia.”
