Miss Pennsylvania, Elena LaQuatra, will be vying for the title of Miss USA during the beauty pageant in Las Vegas on June 5. The Pittsburgh native, aged 24, is so proud of her Greek heritage that she used the word “Greek” more than eight times during her two-minute promo.
“I’m part of a very large Greek family. We’re big, fat and Greek. We love being Greek. We love telling everybody we’re Greek. We love Greek dancing, Greek food, everything Greek,” she says, adding that she travels back to Greece every year to visit her grandparents.
On another note, she shares how she overcame adversity when she contracted meningitis at the age of four, losing her hearing. She says that strangely, it worked out better for her, “having a disability has made me more empathetic towards people.”
LaQuatra will be one of the 50 contestants competing for the 65th Miss USA and will represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant if successful.
