NYSPCC Partners With Schools in Greece

NYSPCC

Based in Lower Manhattan, the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC), is launching the Safe Touches pilot program in Greece this May.

Launched by the NYSPCC in 2007, Safe Touches focuses on child sexual abuse prevention and promotes awareness for children in kindergarten through the third grade, as well as for their teachers. During the Safe Touches program, the NYSPCC’s specially-trained clinicians teach children which parts of the body are private. Then they use colorful puppets in role-play scenarios to help children recognize the difference between safe and not-safe touches and identify who to tell if they have experienced a not-safe touch.

ELIZA is the NYSPCC’s partner in Greece. Funded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, ELIZA will line up schools in Greece. The training sessions will be conducted in English and will be taking place in Athens. Eliza is going to translate all of the materials in Greek and ensure cultural appropriateness.

ELIZA is one of the very few specialized charitable organizations in Greece whose exclusive purpose is to protect and promote the rights of children, who have suffered or run the risk of suffering neglect or abuse. ELIZA is also a member of the “Together for Children” Association.

The program will officially launch in May 2016.
