Greek-American philanthropist Angelo Tsakopoulos was the recipient of the 2016 Friedman legacy award, after Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson delivered his final State of the City address last Thursday in California.

“I want to thank the city on behalf of my six daughters and son,” said Tsakopoulos in his short speech and called on citizens to forgive, love, and give back to their communities.

Tsakopoulos, a model citizen for Sacramento, has given back to his beloved city generously after a legendary career in real estate and construction.

Born in Rizes, Greece, Tsakopoulos came to the U.S. in his teens as a poor immigrant and managed to become one of the largest developers in California. He founded AKT Development, a leading developer in the Sacramento region.
