George Passias; the former Greek priest who had allegedly been involved in an extra-marital relationship, has been formally defrocked as a pastor of the Greek Orthodox Church, according to the New York Post.
The alleged decision was reportedly made by the Greek Orthodox Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul on November 28th.
Passias was not the only one to be disciplined, according to the Post. The members of the executive board of the St. Spyridon Church in New York, where Passias was a pastor, were also relieved of their duties.
The public controversy began in early October when the Post reported that Paissas, who is also married, had been in a romantic relationship with a married woman and had allegedly made an adult tape with her.
A few days later the Archdiocese of the Greek Orthodox Church in America had announced that it had suspended Paissas for his behaviour.
