American Director Michael Moore Offers to House Syrian Refugees

michael-mooreAmerican director Michael Moore expressed his intention of housing Syrian refugees in his home in Michigan to protest the refusal of the state governor in accepting migrants. In an open letter on Facebook Michael Moore, known for his political views, attacked Governor Rick Snyder accusing him of “anti-American” behavior.

Snyder is one of the many governors who decided against the placement of Syrian refugees in their states, following the terrorist attacks in Paris. The Republican Party, which controls the Congress, supports this position, but US President Barack Obama insists that refugees should be admitted in the US.

“Your action is not only disgraceful, it is, as you know, unconstitutional (only the President has the legal right to decide things like this),” wrote Moore. “I’m disappointed in you, Governor Snyder, for your heartless and un-Christian actions, and for joining in with at least 25 other governors (all but one a Republican) who’ve decided to block legal Syrian refugees from coming into their states. Fortunately I’m an American and not a Republican,” he added.

At the same time he expressed his intention of ignoring the governor’s decision and contacting the State Department, offering to house refugees in his home. He also urged American citizens to follow his example.

There has been a great influx of Syrian refugees in Europe, since people are trying to escape their conflict stricken country. The Greek-Turkish border is one of their gateways to Europe. Thousands of refugees are crossing the Aegean Sea each month in order to reach the Greek islands and travel to the northern European countries in search for a better life. However, hundreds have died during the dangerous journey.
