Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with Archbishop Demetrios of America on Thursday and underlined the importance of the role of the Greek Orthodox Church Archdiocese to the Greek-American community.
Tsipras assured the Archbishop that the Greek government will continue to work closely with the Archdiocese. The two men discussed the erection of Saint Nicholas Church next to the World Trade Center that was destroyed during 9/11, through a tragic event, as a symbolic act of hope for a more peaceful world.
The Greek prime minister congratulated Archbishop Demetrios for his philanthropy and thanked him for his initiative in aiding Greece during the economic crisis. Tsipras and the Archbishop agreed to continue the warm and effective cooperation between the American Archdiocese and the Greek government.
