Police Have a Suspect in Savopoulos Family Murder Case

daron-dylon-wintWashington police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of 34-year-old African-American Daron Dylon Wint from Maryland, who was identified as a suspect in the Savopoulos family murder case.

Authorities found the man’s DNA in a pizza crust ordered on the evening of May 13, when the four victims – 46-year-old Greek-American businessman Savvas Savopoulos, his 47-year-old wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip and their 57-year-old housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa- were held captive and later murdered.

According to Washington Post, Savopoulos’ personal assistant delivered a package with 40,000 dollars in cash to her employer’s home on May 14. A few hours later, the house had caught on fire and the four victims had already been killed.

This information further complicates the case that has upset both the United States and Greece. It is still unclear whether the assistant made contact with the assailant, who was at the house at the moment of her arrival.

Furthermore, police found that in the hours preceding the murders, Savopoulos made several phone calls to a bank, an accountant, his personal assistant, a construction company executive and his own company, Iron Works. The phone calls started shortly after 7 am on May 14 and ended shortly after 12 pm. The fire broke out shortly after 1:15 pm (local time).

It should be noted that police revealed on Wednesday, May 20, that the four victims were held captive for almost 24 hours and they were probably tortured. Savopoulos, his wife and their housekeeper were found in chairs soaked with gasoline, while 10-year-old Philip was found in his bed with various wounds all over his body.
