Greek Dinner Around the World Organized by American Photographer

greek-foodPeople from around the world gathered in order to share a Greek dinner. Nidhi Raghav from New Delhi, India, made a spinach pie. Cornelia Gracchi from Ohio, USA, made baked fish (plaki) and galaktoboureko (a traditional Greek dessert) and Theo Simeonidis from New Zealand baked halloumi cheese, kolokythokeftedes (zucchini balls) and chicken souvlaki.

Restaurants, wineries, olive oil and honey producers, bloggers, Greek Diaspora members and Greek cuisine lovers “attended” the online Greek dinner that took place on January 15.

With the help of social media, the participants shared recipes, wines and product recommendations, as well as their knowledge of Greek culture, music, literature and philosophy.

The innovative idea for the Greek Dinner Around the World came from photographer and business consultant Keri Douglas from Washington, USA. Douglas also writes for online magazine “9musesnews” on topics concerning contemporary art, entrepreneurship and innovation trends.

The idea came to her when she was discussing with two friends, one from Greece and one from the US. She proposed that they meet gastronomy specialist Peter Minakis, who organizes special dinners in Canada and across the world. “Why should we limit ourselves to a table or a city?” she said.

The online dinner aims to familiarize people with the concept of Greek cuisine, bring them together through a shared interest and even create new business opportunities.

When the dinner was first organized, 79 people from 53 cities across the globe participated, however the second time, on January 15, the number of participants increased significantly. “I lost count,” said Douglas, noting that Greek Dinner Around the World went viral.
