Greek tennis athlete Stefanos Tsitsipas has defeated world No1 Andrey Rublev in Florida‘s Orange Bowl 2-0 (6-4, 7-5), the most important junior tennis tournament after the Grand Slams, to qualify for tomorrow’s final.

Great legends like Roger Federer, Ivan Lendl, Bjorn Borg, Jim Courier, John McEnroe και Robin Soderling have all raised the Orange Bowl trophy in the past, as well as fellow Greek Paris Gemouhidis (2005) and Marcos Baghdatis (2003).

“I’m honestly so moved” stated the 16-year-old, “I’ve been looking forward to this event ever since I was a young child and now here I am, competing for first place!”

The 17-year-old Russian, recent winner of the Roland Garros, was ahead 4-5 in the second set and serving, but Tsitsipas won four consecutive games, breaking his opponent’s serve twice and knocking him out of the final.

Tsitsipas’ fifth win in the competition leads him in the hands of world No4, American Stefan Kozlov. Following his amazing run to the final, the Greek tennis player is expected to climb the ATP ranking from No91 to the Top 40.
