On October 24, HANAC honored Greek-American managing director of Beck, Mack & Oliver LLC Peter Vlachos, at its annual gala that took place at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in New York City.

Vlachos began his professional career with the Wall Street firm of Amott Baker, joining the Dreyfus Corporation in 1967, where he became portfolio manager and then President of the Dreyfus Leverage Fund. In 1980, he joined Neuberger Berman as an investment advisor.

The Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee (HANAC) was founded in 1972 by George Douris in order to assist the large number of immigrants settling in the Astoria community of Queens. Although many of these immigrants were from Greece, HANAC was committed to serve all newly arriving immigrants requiring assistance.

HANAC’s organization mission is to develop, implement and administer the operation of service programs to enhance the community; to provide these services to any and all who are in need without discrimination as to race, creed, national origin or other defining characteristic; and to work closely with other providers, the city, state and federal government.

The organization presently sponsors over 40 programs located in twelve sites in four boroughs, serving over 30,000 clients annually.
