New York: Tribute to Greek Songwriter Manos Eleftheriou

manos_eleftheriouGreek and international artists will gather in New York on the occasion of the release of the new album “Aoratos” by New York based Greek composer, producer and performer Pericles Kanaris. The album includes seven new songs composed by Manos Eleftheriou, one of the greatest living poets and songwriters in Greece.

Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Kostas Makedonas, Rita Antonopoulou, Lamprini Karakosta and Yiorgos Kaloudis collaborated with leading artists from across the world, including Grammy winners, Neil Dorfsman, John Benitez, Shane Shanahan and oud player Ara Dinkjian, who has worked with Greek artists such as Lina Nikolakopoulou and Eleftheria Arvanitaki.

On the occasion of the new album, Eleftheriou said: “It is a great honor for me, as an old timer, to see my poetry being set to music by a much younger composer such as Pericles Kanaris.”

Kanaris said that the meeting of major artists from across the world who focus on Greek music and poetry is an excellent opportunity to remind the international community of the Greeks’ resistance against the crisis that hit the country.

The album’s official presentation will be held on October 7 in BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center in Manhattan. The artists will perform songs from the new album as well as songs written by Elfteriou and set to music by Manos Hadjidakis, Stavros Kougioumtzis, Yannis Markopoulos, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Dimos Moutsis, Christos Nikolopoulos Yannis Spanos and Mikis Theodorakis.
