Greek Community Leader Tim Maniatis Dies

Timothy J. Maniatis, a well-known leader in the Greek community of USA passed away in peace with his family by his side on Saturday morning, August 2, 2014.

Tim Maniatis was the president of Maniatis Associates, Inc. and over his career he has been the executive director of AHEPA and the National Hellenic Society as well as working on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese to organize special events such as the Clergy-Laity Congress.

Timothy J. Maniatis had recently received the AHI Hellenic Heritage National Public Service Award for his lifetime of service and leadership to the Hellenic community and for extraordinary achievement in the field of association and special event management.

“Tim’s selfless dedication to Hellenic heritage and his faith made him an icon in the Greek American community that he served his entire life,” read a statement by The Hellenic Society.

The viewing and funeral will be take place at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The viewing will be held at St. Sophia on Wednesday, August 6, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral will take place the following morning, Thursday, August 7, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Sophia, 2815 36th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20007.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are welcomed for the National Hellenic Society’s Heritage Greece Program for an annual scholarship that shall bear Tim’s name.
