PanHellenic Scholarship Recipients Receive $250,000

panhellenic-galaOn Saturday June 14, the Panhellenic Scholarship Foundation in an event heldĀ at the International Ballroom of the prestigious Hilton Chicago, awarded a total of 250,000 dollars to 40 of the “best and brightest” Greek American students from across the country.

“It is with great pride that we offer these awards as we believe our young “stars” deserve the recognition and encouragement while they receive meaningful support so that they can successfully continue their academic journey”Ā saidĀ Chris P. Tomaras, founder and chairman of the Foundation. Out of the 40 students, 20 of them who are facing economic difficultiesĀ received $10,000 each, while another 20, from a more comfortable economic background, received $2,500 each.

Pete ZervakisĀ a 2008 scholarship recipient himself, talked aboutĀ the background and the success of the organization, whileĀ the Chairman of the Academic Committee,Ā Dr. George Alexopoulos expressed his admirationĀ for all candidates prior to the distribution of the Awards.

James D. Speros, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer of Fidelity Investments received this year’s Paradigm Award. SperosĀ advised scholarship recipients to always honor their name and to respect the values of Hellenism and Orthodoxy.

Tomaras at the end of the ceremony, expressed his thanks and gratitude to the benefactors and donors for their support toĀ the Foundation, to the Board of Directors, the independent Academic Committee for their selection of the candidates, the Advisory Board and all the staff members and volunteers.

He alsoĀ announced that the American College of Greece in Athens (Deree) has offered exclusively to all past and present PanHellenic Scholarship Recipients, a 3,000 dollar study abroad scholarship per student, per semester.
