Eminent Greek Byzantinologist Passes Away

byzantiumThe well-known Greek byzantinologist, Angela Constantinides Hero passed away on April 22, in her house in New York. Constantinides was a professor in the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Queens College.

The deceased was born in Athens, Greece in 1926. Besides teaching, she was involved in issues related to the Byzantine period and she wrote many books on Byzantium, including works such as The Life and Letters of Theoleptos of Philadelphia, Byzantine Monastic Foundation Documents and Letters of Gregory Akindynos.

In April 2007, at an event in her honor, Archbishop Demetrios of America described her as a brilliant mind, and a significant academic.
