Tim Lambesis Pleads Guilty to Trying to Hire Hitman to Kill Wife

Tim LambesisThe lead singer of Grammy-nominated metal band As I Lay Dying has pleaded guilty to trying to hire someone to kill his estranged wife.
Tim Lambesis pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation of murder on Tuesday in Vista Superior Court, near San Diego. He remains free on bond until his sentencing, which is set for May 2.

Prosecutors say the 32-year-old singer was recorded telling an undercover agent that he wanted his wife killed. He allegedly told a man at his gym that she was making it difficult for him to see their children and impossible to complete their divorce.

Lambesis faces a maximum sentence of nine years in prison and $10,000 fine. While some have responded to Tuesday’s news with sadness and shock, others have shown a disturbing lack of compassion and even outward hostility towards Meggan — as the site Metal Injection recently pointed out.

Lambesis was arrested in San Diego’s North County last May and initially pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer, Tom Warwick, has said the singer experienced brain damage after using steroids. Prosecutors argued that Lambesis was angry with his wife, Meggan — with whom he shared three children, all adopted from Ethiopia — over custody and money issues related to their divorce. They’d been married eight years, but Meggan filed to break off their marriage in September 2012.

As I Lay Dying formed in San Diego in 2000 and has released six albums, including 2007’s An Ocean Between Us, which reached number eight on Billboard’s charts.
